The Wilder beanie is worked from top towards the bottom in a fun cable pattern. The hat is started with the circular cast on method and then increased to the maximum width. The cable pattern is fully charted for both sizes. The top of the hat is easiest to knit using the Magic Loop Method, but you can also work it on DPNs and change to circular needles when it is wide enough.
Sizes
Women’s medium (Men’s medium). The length of the hat is easily adjustable.
To fit head circumference: 53-57 (57-61) cm / 20.75-22.5 (22.5-24) inches
Total length (with folded brim): 26 cm / 10.25 inches
Total length (with brim unfolded): 35.5 cm / 14 inches
Yarn
325 m / 350 yards of sport weight yarn.
Sample: 2 skeins of Spincycle Yarns Wilder (100% non-superwashed American Rambouillet wool; 183 m / 200 yards per 50 g), shown in colorway Dark Grey.
Needles
3 mm / US2.5 DPNs or a circular needle with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting for top of the hat
3 mm / US2.5 circular needle with a cable length of 40 cm / 16 inches for the main part
Gauge
29 sts and 36 rounds = 10 cm / 4 inches of charted pattern according to Chart 2 in the round, after blocking. Note: Always use the needle size that gives you the right gauge!
