Pattern Support FAQ
A quick note before you dive in: hello@sarinordlund.com is for reporting suspected errors in a pattern — if you find one, we'll review and correct it. It's not a general knitting help line, so we're not able to offer one-on-one troubleshooting, technique coaching, or fit/yarn advice by email. For that kind of support, my Ravelry group is the best place to go — it's full of knitters happy to help each other out.
Please allow 1-2 weeks of turnaround time. We will get in touch with you as soon as possible!
I think I found a mistake. What should I do?
First, check your knitting against the written pattern — especially your stitch count against the previous step. My Ravelry group (Sari Nordlund's Ravelry group) is a great place to get a second pair of eyes on this.
It's also possible the mistake has already been corrected in a newer version. Make sure you're knitting the latest one: if you bought the pattern on Ravelry, refresh it in your pattern library; if you bought it from sarinordlund.com, check for a follow-up email with the corrected pattern attached.
If you've knitted exactly according to the pattern and still believe the error is in the pattern itself, email hello@sarinordlund.com with the pattern name, page number, and a short description. We'll review it and correct any real errors as soon as we can.
I don't understand a specific instruction.
If a step feels unclear, it's often worth looking up the technique online — most instructions use standard methods. My Ravelry group is also a good place to ask, as other knitters have often hit the same spot and can walk you through it.
Can you help me choose a size?
The pattern includes finished measurements and recommended ease. The best approach is to measure a garment you already own and love the fit of, then compare those numbers to the pattern's finished measurements.
Garment sizes 1-9 correspond to sizes XS - 5XL. The measurements provided are the actual finished garment measurements, not bust measurements. When choosing your size, measure your bust circumference and add the recommended ease. Then, select the size that best matches your bust measurement plus the recommended ease. If you want a slimmer fit, size down; for a looser fit, choose a larger size.
Remember that you can always adjust the length of your knitted garment to achieve the perfect fit. Try on the garments as you work and modify the length as needed to match your measurements. You can also alter the style by cropping or extending the hem. Just remember that any changes to the dimensions will also affect the amount of yarn needed to complete the project, so ensure you have enough yarn remaining to finish it.
Since fit preference is personal, I'm not able to give individual size recommendations.
What yarn should I use instead?
The pattern lists the recommended yarn weight and gauge. Any yarn that matches the stated gauge and fiber characteristics can work as a substitute.
I can't offer personalized substitution advice, but Ravelry and Instagram are good places to see what other knitters have used. Yarnsub is also a handy tool — search a yarn and it'll suggest alternatives.
Can you help me modify the pattern?
Patterns are written and published as tested. I'm not able to assist with custom modifications or alterations beyond what's in the instructions.
I'm new to knitting — can you explain how to do [technique]?
My patterns assume familiarity with core techniques: knits, purls, increases, decreases, working flat and in the round. For learning a new technique, online tutorials or a local knitting group are the best starting point.
