Victoria Shawl

Victoria was the ancient Roman goddess of victory.

The Victoria shawl is a little triangular kerchief that can be worn in multiple ways. The shawl is worked from the tip, with Increases made  on every right-side row until the full width is reached, before decreasing all the way back to the opposite tip. The size can easily be adjusted to create a larger shawl by adding more pattern repeats.

The Victoria shawl can be knitted by combining fingering-weight yarn with silk mohair or using a single strand of DK-weight yarn.

One size

Total length (adjustable): 100 cm / 39.5 inches

Total width (adjustable): 30 cm/ 11.75 inches

Yarn

Note: The shawl uses a strand of fingering-weight yarn held together with a strand of lace-weight yarn, but they can be substituted for a single strand of DK-weight yarn. If you wish to knit a DK-weight version, omit all the instructions that say “hold the yarns together” and follow only the yarn amount requirements for the fingering-weight yarn.

212 m / 232 yards of fingering weight yarn and 212 m / 232 yards of lace weight yarn. 

Yellow sample: 1 ball of Sandnes Garn Sunday (100% merino; 235 meters / 257 yards per 50 g), shown in the colorway 9004 Lemon and 1 ball of Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair (57% mohair, 28% silk, 15% wool; 212 m / 232 yards per 25 g), shown in colorway 9004 Lemon.

Pink sample: 1 ball of Knitting for Olive Merino (100% merino; 250 meters / 273 yards per 50 g) shown in the colorway Camel Rose and 1 ball of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair (70% mohair, 30% silk; 225 m / 246 yards per 25 g), shown in colorway Mushroom Rose.

Needles

3.5 mm / US 4 circular needles with a cable of at least 60 cm / 24 inches

Gauge

23 sts and 30 rounds = 10 cm / 4 inches of lace pattern, after blocking. Always use the needle size that gets you the right gauge.
