Tritone Pullover

Tritone means “three tunes” like the three chords of the lyre. She was also one of the minor muses in ancient Greek folklore.

The Tritone pullover is knitted seamlessly top-down starting at the neckband. The sleeves and body are separated at the underarm and knitted separately. The neckband can be folded double for extra warmth and volume, or left unfolded for a funnel neck. 

The yoke is knitted in stranded colorwork with increases incorporated into the pattern. There is also a bit of colorwork on the sleeves. For best results, choose three colors with enough contrast for the best result (ie. one that is very light, one that is medium contrast and one that is clearly darker).

• CC1: 230 (250, 270, 300, 330) (360, 400, 440, 480) m / 250 (270, 300, 330, 360) (400, 440, 480, 530) yards of Aran weight yarn, and

• CC2: 70 (70, 80, 90, 100) (110, 120, 130, 140) m / 80 (80, 90, 100, 110) (120, 130, 140, 160) yards of Aran weight yarn.

Needles

For the ribbing:

• 3.5 mm / US4 DPNs or a circular needle with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting for cuffs

• 3.5 mm / US4 circular needle with a cable length of 40 cm / 16 inches for the neckline

• 3.5 mm / US4 circular needle with a cable length of 80 cm / 32 inches for smaller sizes and 100 cm / 40 inches for larger sizes for the hem

For the main part:

• 4.5 mm / US7 DPNs or a circular needle with a cable suitable for small circumference knitting for sleeves

• 4.5 mm / US7 circular needle with a cable length of 60 cm / 24 inches for smaller sizes and 80 cm / 32 inches for larger sizes for the colorwork at the top of the yoke

• 4.5 mm / US7 circular needle with a cable length of 80 cm / 32 inches for smaller sizes and 100 cm / 40 inches for larger sizes for the main part

Note: Always use the needle size that gets you the right gauge! If necessary, knit the colorwork using a needle one size larger than you would normally use for Stockinette stitch with the same yarn weight.

Gauge

18 sts and 22 rounds = 10 cm / 4 inches of colorwork or Stockinette stitch on the larger needles, in the round, after blocking
