The Hey Love tee is a timeless, versatile short-sleeved t-shirt, a true wardrobe staple that pairs with everything and feels as comfortable and functional as your favorite store-bought tee. The slightly boxy fit is easy to customize simply by adjusting the hem length, taking it anywhere from a cropped style to a longer, more oversized silhouette. Shoulder shaping keeps the overall look tailored and neat, without veering into slouchy territory.
The Hey Love tee is worked seamlessly from the top down. Construction begins at the back neck, which is gradually increased to the full width of the upper back before stitches are picked up along the shoulders and the front is joined. The yoke is then shaped in the round, first with increases for the sleeves and then for both sleeves and body together, giving the tee a comfortable, well-balanced fit. At the underarms, the sleeves and body are separated and each finished individually in the round. Both lengths are simple to adjust, and trying the tee on as you go makes it easy to achieve the perfect fit.
The hem, cuffs, and neckband are all finished with a clean fold for a minimalist, polished look. The neckband offers a few variations: knit it straight for the simplest finish, work a fold by knitting into a few rows below for a subtle detail, or add a couple of purled rows at the start of the neckband for a similar effect. For a more feminine, delicate touch, a picot edge can be added to the neckline, cuffs, and/or hem.
The Hey Love tee is knitted in fingering weight yarn. For a summer version, choose a silk or plant-based fiber such as cotton or linen; for a cozy cold-weather knit, opt for a yarn with a higher wool content. Keep in mind that plant-based fibers tend to have more drape than wool, so the fit may vary slightly depending on your yarn choice.
